PRESS NOTE

Date: 29-08-2009

Former Supreme Court Judge K.T. Thomas speaking on the subject “should  there be a law to protect the properties of the Church” said  that Church is afraid of getting exposed about the magnitude of their wealth and expenses they incur and  that is why they are against any law to manage, regulate and protect their properties Eduardo Falerio former Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Commissioner of the Goa N.R.I. Cell, said that Goa Government, is empowered to pass such a legislation, which would  bring in greater transparency in the administrative and  monetary matters of the Church.

As far as other major religions are concerned India has laws such as Hindu Endowments Act, Wafk Board Act and Sikh Gurudwar a Act.

We join hands with Catholics of Goa and demand an all India Act to govern the monetary and property matters of Indian Church.

Catholic Church budget is said to be as large as Indian Navy and Church is the larget employer after the Govt of India.

If we take all Christians together, i.e.,  all other denominations, such as, protestants, C.S.I Serian  Christians  and hundreds of such groups Christians must be the biggest land lord in Indian as well as the biggest employer with a budget that of the size of government of India, or atleast next to it. Christian’s church wealth must be much more than Ambanies

This in short means that Indian Christian Church is running a parallel govt. under a monarchical pattern Governed by Cannon Law within this Democratic Socialistic India.

To give you an example we give below the collection made by one city Church in Mangalore which amounts to Rs.21 lakhs per year. The spilt up is as under

Details                                                                  Annual collection

  1. A city church  having 900 house holds (4,500

population – Annual fees collected)                                               1,80,000.00

  1. Collection for 52 Sundays at the rate of Rs. 5 per person

(4,500 people)                                                                                   11,70,000.00

  1. Tuesday Noveena collection (50% of Sunday

collection)                                                                                           1,85,000.00

  1. Saturday Services (50% of Sunday collection)                                1,85,000.00
  2.  Baptisum, Marriages, Funerals, Donations etc                                  3,65,00.00

20, 85,000.00

(Round of to 21 lakhs)

There are such hundred and sixty churches in the diocese of Mangalore. You can therefore calculate the colossal amount the diocese is handling as a routine affair. Please note that 160 Churches does not include Protestants, C.S.I etc.

For any additional expenditure such as improvement or extensions to the buildings, and annual painting etc. fresh collections are made from the people.

You can now calculate what must be the earnings from the School, Colleges, Halls, Hospitals, Orphanages, Industries, Agriculturalist Estates etc, they are running.  Mangalore Diocese is more powerful and wealthier than our own Ambanies, who atleast pay some tax while church pays no tax. Besides church never raises any funds on interest. Every thing comes by of donations interest free donations and non – repayable.

Story of Mulky Devine Center and Father Jerry with a 8 year old son:

This priest was arrested by Andhra Police on a criminal charge of on cheating an Andhra woman who said that the Father of her 8 year old son is Father Jerry. Father Jerry say that the Bishop  has hatched a conspiracy  to finish him because of a money dispute between than.

Death of a Malayalee Priest at Kadaba:

The death of a Priest in Kadaba outside the house of his girl friend, in a naked condition speaks the truth whether the post – mortem report is received or not. This is the way our Priests live.

Father Godfrey Saldahna of Derebali  :

This Priest always has one or two young boys as his adopted sons. He is also accused of having several affairs with women in various places They say he has left a permanent land mark in his memory in Kalyanpur where he was a  Priest. Very soon the Kalyanpur lady may follow the footsteps of the Andhra lady.

Book written by a Malayalee Nun:

This is a book written by an Ex-Nun, explains in detail how homo sexuality, lesbianism and other sex exploits involved with Priest and others, are rampant in convents.

Father Gregory Vas, former Headmaster of Milagres Church:

While he was in Milagres he was so generous that it is said that he looked after them a full family with six girls, gave thE jobs in his institutions, got them married away and also provided  assistance for their husbands to build housses.

Sastan Story of St. Antony Church:

A criminal case under section 420 has been filed again the Parish   Priest,  Father Wilson Martin by his own committee  members for miss management, misuse and misappropriation.

Father Peter Noronha of Bendoor Church:

He is a play boy among the Priests. A scotch whiskey drinking hero of much adventures was a Director of Father Muller’s Hospital  and some of the Nurses still speak of his life styles. When he was posted as Parish Priest of Bendoor Chruch, the first step he took was to terminate the services of night watch man who became a hindrance to his Nocturnal activities

Kulshekar Church:

The miss rule and miss management of the Dictatorial Parish Priest has reached such a extent that a group of Parishioners filed a case against the Parish Priest. They have also formed Mangalore diocesan   Association under the name United Christian Association to expose this Priest.

Recently a High Court has allowed marriage between members of the same sex. But the Church is making a big noise and not allowing the same.  We cannot have two constitutions for India. Rome’s Cannon Law cannot be allowed to be followed in India.

The above details make it very clear were our Priests spend our money. They are not transparent, they are not honest.

This association has been fighting for empowering of lay men govern  Church matters pertaining  to its property   and all other monetary matters, since nearly ten years. One of its major demands is convertion of all to our in Chalgeni / Mulegeny properties in the name of occupiers   without any payment to the diocese, which falsely claims the ownership of the lands.

Our demands:

  1. Enactment of a all India law to govern all temporal [property, Finance, Management of Churches, Hospitals, Hotels in the same of Hostels, Halls, Schools, Colleges and such other matters involving money matters.
  2. Abolition of Mulgini / Chalgeni system if the Bishops fail to bestow freehold titles on the occupiers who have been in peaceful possession of landed properties since generations to generations.
  3. Converstin of Halls Hospitals, Workshops etc as Cooperative Societies or joint Stock Companies managed by the Laymen.

To press our demands we will be organizing a “Prayer Meet” in front of the Bishops House in the month of October 2009. This is a call to all laymen to participate in our “Prayer Meet”

P.B. D’Sa

President
